protect the Mani

We are an association of Greek and Foreign inhabitants who want to defend The Mani (South Peloponnisos) from those speculative builders  who are,in many cases, ruining the environment of this unique and beautiful region,its Mediterranean flora, olive groves, coastline, as well as the cleanliness of the sea and the quality of the drinkable water. All this is happening very rapidly,in many cases by-passing regulations and limits. We need  people's awarness and support,as well as the authorities' collaboration (when possible) but also
pressing them (when necessary) to obtain a new eco-sustainable Building Plan as soon as possible.Every month tens and hundreds of new buildings appear in  place of the green ,in many cases disfiguring  the landscape,and accelerating the desertification.

Είμαστε ένας σύλλογος Ελλήνων και αλλοδαπών κατοίκων της Μάνης που θέλουμε να τη διαφυλάξουμε από κερδοσκόπους κατασκευαστές, οι οποίοι σε πολλές περιπτώσεις καταστρέφουν το περιβάλλον αυτής της μοναδικής και ωραίας περιοχής, τη Μεσογειακή της χλωρίδα, τους ελαιώνες, την ακτογραμμή, τις καθαρές παραλίες και την ποιότητα του πόσιμου νερού.

Αυτό τελευταία επιταχύνεται, σε πολλές περιπτώσεις  παρακάμπτοντας νόμιμες διαδικασίες. Χρειαζόμαστε την επαγρύπνηση και τη στήριξη των κατοίκων και επισκεπτών καθώς και τη συνεργασία των αρχών, πιέζοντας αυτές όταν κρίνεται απαραίτητο ώστε να εγκριθεί ένα νέο πολεοδομικό σχέδιο, με οικολογικό προσανατολισμό, όσο το δυνατό συντομότερα. 

Κάθε μήνα δεκάδες νέα κτίρια εμφανίζονται, αντικαθιστώντας το πράσινο,  παραμορφώνοντας το τοπίο και επισπεύδοντας την εριμοποίηση .

                                                 

Μας ενδιαφέρει η ανάπτυξη που σέβεται το περιβάλλον και τις παραδόσεις της Μάνης, στηρίζουμε εναλλακτικές μορφές τουρισμού και γεωργίας, όπως αγρο-τουρισμό, συντήρηση υπαρχόντων κτιρίων, οικολογικές καλλιέργειες, μαζί με παραδοσιακές μορφές  «έξυπνου» τουρισμού.    

Θεωρούμε ότι ο καταστρεπτικός μαζικός τουρισμός, δεν έχει μέλλον, όπως έχει ήδη συμβεί σε πολλές άλλες Μεσογειακές χώρες. Θα έχει επίδραση και θα αλλοιώσει τον πολιτισμό, τις παραδόσεις, τα ήθη και έθιμα των κατοίκων της Μάνης.

Όταν έχουν καλυφθεί οι παραλίες με κτίρια και τσιμέντο, ο τουρισμός αναπόφευκτα πηγαίνει σε άλλες παραθαλάσσιες περιοχές, περισσότερο ελκυστικές, ποιο καθαρές χωρίς καταστρεπτικές παρεμβάσεις.  Δυστυχώς αυτό έχει συμβεί και συμβαίνει στην Ισπανία, Ιταλία, Πορτογαλία και πρέπει να αποφευχθεί στη Μάνη και στην Ελλάδα, Τώρα όχι αύριο.

When we speak of regulation and limitation,we don't propose a Regression,but a Development of this region,which respects the Environment of the Mani ,which supports the introduction of alternative forms of tourism and agriculture,such as agro-tourism, renovation of existing buidings, eco-compatible agriculture and gardening, etc.together with the rational forms of  an eco- sustainable tourism.
We think that a destructive mass tourism has no future , as it already happened in many other Mediterranean countries !!!
With such distructive tourism ,also the deep popular culture , the traditions ,the habits of the maniotic people will be affected and altered.
When you have covered the coastline with buildings and cement, the tourism inevitably goes to other sea-places, more enjoyable, clean and natural !! This is a negative effect also on the economic point of view,as the properties will be devaluated.
This is what happened and is still happening in Cyprus,Spain, Italy, Portugal etc.
When you  cut trees and the mediterranean flora,you'll accelerate the process of desertification.It's been  denounced by all the climatologists ,as the result of the dramatic climate changes and the  global warming.
This is what Greece and Mani must avoid !! Now, not tomorrow!
