Public meeting on Desertification-August 28,2008
On August 28,2008 / in the yard of the ex-elementary school of Kardamyli /at 8.30 pm/ we organize a public meeting on the topic " Desertification:an emergency for The Mani and for the world- Can we do something? "
with the projections of photos and video introduced by prf.Kosta Kosmas (of the University of Athens,member of the Greek National Comitee against Desertification) and prof.Georgos Mighiros (Geology and Mineralogu Dept.of Athens' Univeristy). A public debate will follow.
Dymos' authorities are invited.
The Al Gore's famous film " An inconvenient truth- A global warning" will be projected after the public debate.

It went very well,considering that it was a week day. We estimate about a hundred of participants,very interested (many questions to the professors).
We were followed by two local TV channels ,Best and Net ,who interviewed our president.
The authorities of the Dymos we invited,were absent....nothing unexpected...so they couldn't hear the questions and the worries that people expressed at the meeting. Pity!
We had also a quiet civil protest from the KKE (Communist Party) with the distribution of leaflets at the entrance of the yard of the school : they contested the projection of Al Gore's documentary
as he is considered one of the responsibles of the ex Yugoslavia bombing ten years ago. That has nothing to do with the theme of the Desertification and the Global warming of these days.
We want to go on with these subjects of Desertification-Global Warming-Concrete Jungle (instead of an intelligent tourism respectful of the environment). But we need also the support of more people,more members,more truthful information from the media.
Too many so called Mani-lovers are only busnissmen interested in making Money,or they are just dreamers.. blind on what's happening around them (destruction of the mediterranean flora-the frigano- and the olive groves).
To be more effective,we need the support of more people,more members,more truthful information from the media- So join us and subscribe the petitions,if you want to do something to save the Mani !!
